How has it only been a little over a week since that post?!
Anyway, an update: my mom's surgery went well, and she's recuperating at home. I've taken a couple nights off to help her (while the incision heals, moving her left arm is quite painful for her), but she's doing really well, thank goodness. The hospital staff was wonderful, and even allowed me to stay with her until she was taken to the OR, and while she was in recovery.
I'm so relieved that's done with!
Also! On a totally unrelated note, we got snow in the area yesterday! None in my neighborhood (which was probably for the best, since I have no idea how to drive in it!), but it covered the surrounding mountains, and some of the suburbs got a few inches of accumulation. When we arrived at the hospital, it had largely melted from the ground, but the roofs in the area were still pleasantly dusted. A lovely little surprise. :)
Just wanted to check in with updated info. Of course, with everything going on, I got absolutely zero writing done in the past week. I did, however, chip away at a ridiculous fandoodle I've dubbed "The Caffeinata," and whose existence I blame entirely on Gladys from Animal Crossing for reminding me that coffee-shop AUs exist. ;)

Date: 2021-01-28 01:29 pm (UTC)Ah snow! That's awesome! Freshly fallen snow is always pretty to look at. And as someone born and raised in New England, most people up here don't know how to drive in it, either 🤣 mostly just go slow, brake sooner at stops to account for ice and potential skidding, and if you fishtail, ease off the gas and brake and turn into the direction your fishtailing to straighten out. But honestly, it's better to stay home and away from stupid drivers - and you get to watch the pretty snow!
I'M DYING AT THIS COFFESHOP AU. I had Aurora mention something like to me last month and I was like BUT GO ON WHERE DO I READ THIS FIC. The villagers crack me up. Have a blast with your fandoodle, too! Can't wait to see it 😍

Date: 2021-01-29 10:38 pm (UTC)And thanks for the snow driving tips! Other drivers really are a bigger threat than the actual weather.
Gladys' coffee-shop AU comment caught me off-guard! I thought I'd heard everything my Normal villagers had to say by this point -- and I thought they'd pooh-pooh fanfic, being the serious readers that they are. So I feel oddly validated to know that they read it too! XD But yeah, now I want to know what this fanfic is about! What fandom is it for? I'm just going to assume one of my Peppies got them into one of their fandoms, so it's probably a fic about "Maglevs in Love" or "The Forehead Detective". ;)
As for my fandoodle, I'm eager to share it, but geez, drawing guys is hard! One would think it would be easy, since they're basically just angles, but getting those angles in a shape vaguely resembling a man is a lot trickier than I thought it would be! XD
