Orville Peck singing in Spanish is not something I expected to hear this year. Or ever, frankly. But it's certainly catchy, and pretty good! In fact, I'm very much enjoying these collaborations he's coming out with, and looking forward to the full album. While not every song works for me, I really love the variety and energy of the project.
My favorite so far has to be "The Hurtin' Kind", with Midland. I grew up with country music in the 80s and 90s, and this sounds like it would fit right in with that era (in fact, just about all of Midland's catalogue could, but that's a subject for another post).
And, of course, his duet with Kylie Minogue, "Midnight Ride." Including the live version here because the visual is just as amazing as the song (killer suit on Orville, and you've just gotta love the fringed Adidas tracksuits on the background dancers (what decade is this, again? *NSYNC could never!) XD):

That the classic Vegas showgirl is a thing of the past (the last revue closed some years ago; now you only see dancers in classic costumes with big headpieces in promotional campaigns, or as buskers on the Strip) adds another delightfully spooky element to this. This woman is a remnant of a bygone era, an icon who no longer has a place. Her old haunts are literally that, and her stomping grounds have become her hunting grounds, in a search for immortality, or simply, relevance.
(Unrelated, but she's also got a damn fine body. Look at those back muscles! With headpieces weighing up to twenty pounds, these dancers had to be strong.)
Of course I'm reading too much into this, but I'm happy to. This definitely sparked some appropriately spooky story ideas in my mind.

"I Want You Back" by NSYNC
When my little cousin was an itty-bit-bit, he was a massive NSYNC fan, introduced to them via this concert on the Disney Channel. Every time the concert was rerun, he would stand in front of the TV and try to match the guys' dance moves. He even asked his grandma for a pair of track pants, so he could look like them, and soon enough, there he was, dancing away in tiny track pants. XD
He's in his late twenties now, and would be mortified to know that I even remember this. Here's to you, Popsidoodle! 👍

Memories of my trip to Florence in 2009. This was the lead single from Ramazzotti's brand-new album at the time, and it absolutely saturated the airwaves over there.
