Eh ... and a little whine

Another Wednesday with no writing to report. :( On the bright side, I've finally decided on a prompt for Press Start and plotted it out! It was strange; I was comfortable with the prompts, but I just couldn't zero in on a story for any of them for the longest time. I'm going to be trying something a little different from my usual fare for my assignment, and I'm looking forward to it. There are also a couple of prompts I'm eyeing for treats, so I hope I have enough time to get around to them.

The Successor Challenge started up on Tumblr, but I'm not sure if I'll participate. I've mentioned it before, but last year's challenge felt so cold and impersonal (there wasn't even a masterpost at the end!), almost perfunctory, and that kind of soured me on the whole thing. :( But I found a scrap of a story from last year that I didn't get around to, and since the challenge simply includes all previous themes, I can try to polish it up if I have time.

But that's another thing that's strange: I only became active in the FF8 fandom on Tumblr at the beginning of 2018, but that was long enough to see it wither to a shell of its former self. I really do miss it -- the fics, the art, and especially the meta -- and I think that has had an effect on my motivation to write for the fandom. (That, and I seem to have lost my grasp on the characters' personalities.) I will come back around (I still have stories to tell, after all!); I just need to refamiliarize myself with how I feel about the game and the characters, first.

I may not have a word count to share today, but at least I have direction, which is more than I've had in weeks! I'm looking forward to making some progress in the coming days.

Honestly? Same with the Successor Challenge stuff. I was not happy by the end of it last year (and also not happy that the theme this year was announced a month late without an extension for us to create stuff). I had two other stories to post and ended up not finishing them with how bleh I felt. The VIII fandom has definitely deminished over the years on tumblr, but I really felt it last year. It makes writing for the fandom really difficult. But yeah, I miss the community being more active and stuff :(

Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled about the late start, either. It feels like the person/people(?) running it don't really want to, anymore. If that's the case, I wish they'd ask for help; I'd jump at the chance! Oh, well.

Thanks for your well wishes! I'm already having a lot of fun plotting and outlining my assignment and treats for Press Start. I was a bit apprehensive about even signing up, at first, but now, I'm so glad I did. It's the shot in the arm my creativity needed! :D
