Last Year Fic Meme

Only four fics written this year again, but also again, I can't resist a meme! :)
Number of fics written: 4
Fandoms: Final Fantasy VIII and Original Work
Categories: Gen and F/M
Best title: "Flowers on the Sill" (FF8, Rinoa & Caraway). This is the best of a really weak bunch.
Worst title: "Lemonade" (FF8, Squall/Ellone). This is only tangentially related to anything in the story.
Best first line: From "Flowers on the Sill": From the street, the Caraway mansion resembled more of a fortress than a home, with its pair of towers and heavy front door. (Again, the competition was weak.)
Best last line: None really stood out.
Worst first/last line: Let's just not with the negativity this time. 🙃
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted? I was hoping I'd be able to improve on 2023, but it didn't happen. However, at least I matched it!
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year? Squall/Ellone. I really don't know what got into me with that one. >:}
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest. "Flowers on the Sill." I enjoyed digging into the relationship between Rinoa and Caraway, and trying to find even the slightest way that they might move forward in a positive direction.
Okay, NOW your most popular story: "Wild Strawberry" (Original F/M), with 12 kudos and a whopping 491 hits at the moment. Inexplicable, but I'm glad someone's enjoying it!
Story most under-appreciated by the universe? None. None of these were all that great.
Story that could have been better? All of them; see above.
Sexiest story? In terms of actual, explicit smut, it's "Lemonade." But in terms of romantic sex, it's "Wild Strawberry."
Saddest story? It's not necessarily sad, but "Lemonade" is definitely the downer of the bunch.
Most fun? "Fancy a Dance?" (FF8, Quisits & Irvine). Having these two interact outside of their professional relationship made for some fun, lighthearted banter. And I have to admit, I took a twisted sort of joy in turning the tables on Irvine in regard to his love of the ladies. >:3
Story with single sweetest moment? "Flowers on the Sill," where Caraway tells Rinoa that despite their differences, he is proud of her.
Most fucked-up story? "Lemonade".
Hardest story to write? "Flowers on the Sill." I wanted Rinoa and Caraway to take a step toward mending their relationship, but I didn't want it to be magically repaired, and I didn't want to negate all of the hurt on both sides.
Easiest/most fun story to write? "Wild Strawberry." No canon, no prompt, just two people enjoying each other.
Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters? Nope.
Most overdue story? I still don't know what this means! By any definition, though, none.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I played it very safe in 2024, from a technical perspective.
What are your fic writing goals for 2025? To write. That's all I can ask for at the moment. :)
