I really haven't had time to create things for this, but I figured I'd at least share things that make me squee. :)

Tuesday's child is full of grace

Create: Produce something that focuses on movement. It could feature for example a dance, a fight (a duel, or perhaps the vast armies advancing across the plains, weather (the strike of lightning, the gentle roll of clouds), time (too fast, too slow). Perhaps the movement is organic or mechanical, aesthetic or utilitarian, sweeping or barely noticeable.

Squee: Tell us about a movement that takes your breath away, or even better, share a video of it. A dance performance, nature video, athletic feat... The kind of thing you never tire watching.

Create: (I didn't get around to creating anything for this)

Squee: I've always been amazed by the talent, artistry, and sheer athleticism of artistic swimming. The complex movements and synchronization that these swimmers master, while being upside-down underwater for at least 90% of the routine, are incredible, and I really wish I had more opportunities to watch the sport than during the olympics.

Here's a video of the Chinese team's silver-medal performance in Tokyo (no disrespect meant to the gold-medal ROC team, who were incredible; I just really enjoyed some of the patterns/formations the Chinese team performed).

Wednesday's child is full of woe

Create: Produce something that focuses on overcoming challenges and barriers, either small or large, self-made or imposed by others. You can put as much pain and angst in there as you want, but show us a response to that. It doesn't need to be an uncomplicated victory and a bed of roses either.

Squee: Tell us about a cause you’re passionate about, or perhaps a cause that fandom introduced you to. Feel free to link to informational videos or articles where people can learn more about that or be inspired. Tell us how we can get involved and make a difference, whether through donating, volunteering, learning, changing our behaviours or thinking etc.

Create: Nothing today, sorry!

Squee: I'm sorry that I don't have the time to do a big write-up for this, but I will link to an organization whose work I admire and believe in.

Heifer International is an organization that works to combat hunger and poverty in (currently) 21 nations around the world, by providing communities the livestock and training necessary to earn an income and pass on the skills they've learned and the offspring of the livestock to further enrich the community.

From their website, their mission statement:

We work to end hunger and poverty in partnership with the communities we serve. Our programs support entrepreneurs around the world, creating lasting change from the ground up.

It begins with a seed investment of livestock or agriculture, followed by mentorship to help project participants build a business, and ultimately to gain access to supply chains and markets.

These families are able to earn a living income and continuously lift up their communities as they train the next generation of leaders.

By supporting and training the world's farmers, ranchers, and female business owners, we're investing in a new breed of success.

I first became aware of Heifer International through a brochure I received in the mail in 2005. Since then, it's become a holiday tradition for me to make a donation to the organization. Even when I was in rough financial straits, the ability to gift even a flock of chicks or a share of a larger animal allowed me to continue my contributions.

What I love most about this organization is that it recognizes human dignity and the desire for self-sufficiency. It recognizes that poverty is not the result of laziness, but of circumstance, and it provides these communities with the necessary materials and skills to begin to combat it from within, maintaining their dignity and self-sufficiency in the process. It is a prime example of a "hand up" rather than a "handout," and I admire the organization and the recipients of its assistance for the work that they do.
