On one of those funny-animal clip shows, there's a clip of a cat who nobody pets, as in, the person keeps their hand hovering just above the cat's head, and the poor cat looks miserable. It's stuck in that horrible space between anticipation and experience, where nobody--human or animal--wants to be.

And so it is with what is beginning to feel like an inevitable second lockdown. The governor hinted at such earlier this week, saying that if the state's numbers did not improve in two weeks, he would take "stringent measures" to combat the spread of Covid-19.

And then he tested positive today.

So, it's really more a case of when than if at this point, but the silence from the higher-ups at my job is distressing. The company was gracious enough to give paid admin leave to those of us who cannot work remotely the first time around, and it is likely they'll try to work out something similar this time, but not knowing for sure leaves me with a little knot of anxiety in the back of my mind.

In the worst-case scenario, I have enough savings to cover my necessary expenses for a few months, but I would really prefer not to have to tighten my budget in the middle of the holiday season.

It's definitely a wait-and-see scenario at the moment, and those are the worst. I suppose I'm just going to fling myself into escapist fare during my free time until Monday, when, hopefully, we'll hear what the plan will be going forward.

Blargh.
