The June Something - Days 5 and 6
Jun. 7th, 2021 01:40 amDay 5: Compare and/or contrast your very first fandom obsession and your very latest fandom obsession.
All right, Illusion of Gaia vs. Transistor! I really have no idea how to compare them. :/
One is an action RPG for the SNES set on a version of Earth radically changed by the effect of a comet, the other is a stylish game set in a digital utopia overrun and being deleted by the very code that built it. One protagonist is driven by the need to find out what happened to his father on an expedition the year before, the other is driven by revenge for the killing of her boyfriend. One has very awkward writing/dialogue, the other has stellar writing/dialogue. One has a loyal, literally self-sacrificing pig companion, the other has a cute robotic dog.
Oh! They both have great music! And their protagonists both end up in a world very different from the one they knew. And they've both made their own spaces inside my brain, and inspired my creative pursuits (don't worry, there will not be an attempt at a Transistor stage musical! XD).
Day 6: What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?
Even though they each have a respectable following, I sometimes wish that the other three Supergiant games would get as much attention as Hades is getting. Especially Transistor. But then I think about all the little squabbles and "discourse" that pop up in big fandoms, and I'm happy enjoying them in their own quiet little corners of the internet, where Blue can box and Sybil can be murderously jealous without being labeled "problematic."
The June Something - Day 7
Jun. 7th, 2021 08:29 pmDay 7: What's the longest time you've been in a fandom? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way.
