[TWST] In the Dark When You're Alone
Jun. 4th, 2025 03:34 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Lilia Vanrouge (Canon), Fafnir Starweaver (OC)
Rating: Mature (Light angst, angst with a happy ending)
Words: 2,482
Summary: General Vanrouge gets more than he bargained for when he goes to bother a certain healer in the middle of the night, but maybe it's just what he needs.
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 12/27/23 and now being archived here! Original Notes: It's the holiday season and we're fresh on the heels of another Book 7 update, which means I am ONCE AGAIN plagued with visions of the Old Fae Men pining! xD Yet another chapter in their story that I've been working on for some time (and struggled with for one reason or another), and I'm finally ready to just yeet it somewhere. xD Without further ado, enjoy!
****
Lilia is used to being awake at this hour. As he takes to the shadows of the castle halls with a bottle of wine in tow, he would much rather be what bumps in the night instead of trying to force himself to sleep. Sleep was a means to an end for him, and any opportunity to avoid the dreamless darkness of his mind was a good one.
In his typical mischief maker fashion, he decided that instead of drinking alone and staring off at the moon, he’ll bother another fae that he knew would be up at this hour. The thought of getting that man to actually relax for once and not work himself into a stupor was a fun prospect.

Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Lilia Vanrouge (Canon), Fafnir Starweaver (OC)
Rating: Teen
Words: 972
Summary: Lilia always manages to find a fun way to dodge Fafnir's questions.
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 1/1/23 and now being archived here! Original Notes: "New year, new me" I say as I once again write about old fae. What better way to celebrate Lilia's birthday than with old men pining? Just something small I wanted to knock out really quick and figured why not post it. Happy birthday to our beloved peepaw!! ^ o^)/ Edit 9/28/23: Came back and gave this another once over since we got more Lilia lore in Book 7! Cheers!
****
“Lilia? Did you hear what I asked you?”
Of course he didn’t. Lilia was too busy relaxing on his side in the middle of the forest, tracing the freckles on Fafnir’s exposed thighs with his eyes and trying to make out what constellations he could create on the other man’s pale skin. A small glass dish that lie between them—filled with delicious fruits—was all the cover he needed to make himself seem lost in thought. Fafnir called his name once more, and this time it was enough for him to meet his gaze.

Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Lilia Vanrouge (Canon), Fafnir Starweaver (OC)
Rating: Teen
Words: 509
Prompt: OC x Canon Week 2024's Day 6 Prompts: "An Intimate Moment" and "I demand cuddle time!"
Summary: If you want to wake a sleeping Fafnir from a nap, you have to go through General Vanrouge first. Whether that ends well for you or not is anyone's guess.
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 3/24/24 and now being archived here! Original Notes: Of COURSE it wouldn't be long before I wrote about these old men again! Had this draft sitting in the tuck for a while, and OC x Canon week was the perfect opportunity to whip it out!! (YES, I'm posting the prompts out of order because this week left me little to no time to write. No, I am not accepting criticism at this time. xD) Enjoy! ^ o^)/
****
“Ser Fafnir? Do you have a moment?”
Lilia immediately answers on the other side of the wooden door as soon as the soldier’s done knocking, though it comes out as more of an irritated snarl than a formal response thanks to the how loud the knocking was. “He doesn’t. State your purpose.”

scanners vs. divers, again
Jun. 4th, 2025 11:44 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I was discussing confidence and job searching with friends the other day, and one of them suggested reading Refuse to Choose: Use All of Your Interests, Passions and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams so I dutifully clicked the link and then went WAIT WHAT A BARBARA SHER BOOK I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT?!?!
I'm a big fan of Barbara's books, and spent a lot of time on her message board when I was younger. I helped proofread Wishcraft when she was first digitizing it, and had even talked to her on the phone once regarding the project. I was very sad when I heard she had passed away, because her books were very formative and helpful for me.
So yes, I immediately bought the ebook of Refuse to Choose and started reading it, and well, it's basically a how-to manual for scanners.
Hmm.
Okay, let me explain: Barbara says there are two types of people in the world: scanners vs. divers. A diver is someone who finds a subject they are interested in, then dives into it and learns everything about it. Scanners are the opposite: they taste a bunch of different subjects and have a lot of different interests.
In the past, I had considered myself a scanner. Now, I'm not so sure. I mean, it's been TWENTY YEARS and I am still primarily listening to Final Fantasy music. It's been FIFTEEN YEARS and I am still knitting and crocheting happily. And those are primarily my two interests. So that feels more like a diver to me.
And yet: I get bored within 6-12 months at a job. Once I learn what I'm doing and master it, I get depressed and listless. I was also the person in high school and college who took classes just because they sounded fun (like, I was never REALLY interested in acting or the theater, and yet I took both "Beginning Acting" and "Play Production" in high school, and enjoyed the classes.)
There's such a thing as a frustrated diver--that person who hasn't found their niche yet. I do wonder if that could be me. Or flipping things around: am I really a scanner that's masking as a diver right now because of anxiety/depression/whatever? There are so many ways I'm afraid to step out of my comfort zone. I'm trying to be more brave and try new things, but it's going to be a process.
If I think of all the things I have tried in the past... well, let's list them:
* photography
* drawing (when I was a kid)
* digital art (a college class I took that was open to highschoolers)
* journal/memoir writing (took a class on this)
* fiction writing (I subbed to Writer's Digest for several years)
* acting
* play production
* embroidery (I have a kit from the library that I was working on)
* candle making (never did it, but bought a kit when I was younger)
* astronomy (had a telescope)
* piano (took lessons as a kid, had electronic keyboards as an adult)
* flute (played in grammar/high school)
* violin (bought a cheap one off ebay and the Suzuki method books and played around with them)
* marathon walking
* pin loom weaving
* tablet weaving via backstrap method
* bracelet making (as a kid/teen)
* origami
* studying Japanese for fun
* anime/manga
* coding for fun (bot!)
* interactive fiction coding/writing
* website design
* DVD making (I made a simple menu for a DVD of Serenity-related items)
* painting, particularly on windows
* trading card games (MtG and LOTR)
...and probably more... that's quite a list! And I wouldn't say I mastered any of them, with the possible exception of bot. I am proud with what I did with bot. Oh, and I actually succeeded in completely a marathon, so that's an exception too. But all of the others, I dipped into for a bit. Usually, I would get REALLY EXCITED about something, throw my all into it for a bit, maybe succeed in accomplishing something, and then... drop the subject.
One thing I notice is that much of the stuff on the list has a creative element to it. I do very much feel like I'm a creator. I want to produce stuff. I want to create stuff out of nothing. I want to inspire or bring joy to people with my creations. I am happiest when talking about creating things. Also happy when discussing video games, but then it's primarily about the really good stories and characters and not so much the gameplay. I'm a sucker for a good story.
So yeah, maybe I *am* a scanner that hasn't allowed herself to explore lately. Either way, I'm gonna finish reading the book and see what Barbara has to say.

Hello from Malaysia
Jun. 4th, 2025 08:45 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
My flight could have been better... Turns out there's a weight limit to luggage that airlines will accept! I didn't know this. I thought I could fit everything into two check-in luggage and I did, but they rejected one of them. Luckily, friend of my housemate had driven me to the airport so I could hand him my luggage to give it back to my housemate for safekeeping but ugh, I did not need that 10.30pm panic for my 1am flight.
And I realized after opening the luggage I could check-in that most of my daily clothes are in the other luggage. So are most of my books. And my keyboards. And my precious sticker collection. And some goodbye presents.
I'm still really, really tired. Probably emotions + jetlag.
Hope you all are doing well!

hmmm....thinking I want to save my money by investing on PC instead buying switch 2.
Switch 2 prices seems pretty expensive in my currency (thx for dollar prices increased)
probably will buy the secondhand version if there's chance or wait until the price settle down, or if I had more money

Ongoing Changes:
➤ I mentioned it in my yap the other day but check out my "Archived from Ao3" tag for all the stuff I'm archiving from AO3 to here!! I'm yeeting over a lot of oneshots first, THEN I'll move on to some of the chaptered fics I have there!! Not sure if I'm going to take my canon character-focused fics down from there yet, but I'll upload em here for folks to read em anyways just in case!!
➤ Decided to make an "event" tag!! This'll be for various writing events I submitted stuff for like OC x Canon Week, so poke at it if you see it around!!
Upcoming Changes:
➤ I was also looking into creating a sort of ship tag for all my ships? Something like "ship: [oc name][canon name]" for example!! I always wanna try to my my journal as easy to navigate as I can, and I was randomly thinking like "what if folks wanted to read certain fics for any of my OC x Canon ships"? I feel like I should simply so they're easier for me to find if/when I need to, but anyways there's that! xD

one ok rock (with stand atlantic) concert
Jun. 2nd, 2025 10:30 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
really fun!! i'd never been to a non-kpop (or school) concert before, so this was very interesting for me. felt like observing a different way of using the space on a stage. never been to a concert with an opening act before either, and now i kind of am like hey, kpop should steal this idea!
this was my friend's first concert, so i got to feel like an expert. 😌 like "no it's not over yet; they haven't turned the house lights back on. so it's not time to leave yet." also before the concert i got to eat korean fried chicken for the first time, yay!
- there was this kind of lull after stand atlantic finished. we were just hanging out watching staff(?) check the instruments over before one ok rock came on, and that was fun actually
- really enjoyed their extended instrumental interludes and codas. and singalong bits
- in the couple of weeks leading up to this, i thought it might be a good idea to learn the chorus lyrics of "stand out fit in". and it paid off! i love acing an exam that only exists in my head 👍 (/half-sarcastic)
- the drummer is my new favorite guy. sometimes i would look over at him and think, wow that man is having an out-of-body experience over there. he would mouth lyrics along with the lead singer with such conviction. also he gave a couple very amusing shout-outs local to our city
- i know this is probably a thing more musicians do, but seeing someone throw water over the crowd just makes me think of tbz eric lmao

Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Lilia Vanrouge (Canon), Fafnir Starweaver (OC)
Rating: Mature
Words: 1098
Summary: In the midst of a long journey, Lilia and Fafnir are able to find a brief respite in an elderly couple's home, just in time for a snowstorm.
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 1/3/24 and now being archived here! Original Notes: Lilia's birthday passed and I am once again back on my "Old Fae Men in Love" BS b/c who would I be if I wasn't? xD Happy belated birthday, Peepaw! Mentions some events from Book 7, so heads up for spoilers! Happy New Year, and enjoy!!
****
With a slight snowstorm raging on outside, Lilia finds himself curled up in thick blankets in a criminally soft bed, reminiscing on something a soldier told him a while back as he settles into the darkness. It’s the one thing he can get his mind to focus on that isn’t about how tired he is.

Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Leona Kingscholar (Canon), Tristan (OC)
Rating: Mature
Words: 716
Summary: Tristan is enjoying the circus to his heart's content and Leona gives him a little something as a reward.
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 10/24/23 and now being archived here! Original notes: I wanted ship serotonin to accompany a commission I got recently so I had to get off my bum and write it! Short, simple, and to the point, just in time for the Playful Land event in-game. xD Enjoy! ❤️
****
Leona Kingscholar wasn’t the type of man you could easily impress. The fancy gimmicks and flashy techniques often fell short in favor of other things that caught his eye. It’s not like he makes it easy to discern what the things that would light a spark in him are, but it becomes quite obvious once it’s known.

Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Malleus Draconia (Canon), Tristan (OC), (Canon x Canon ship mentioned)
Rating: Gen
Words: 1,693
Prompt: OC x Canon Week 2024's Day 2 Prompt: "Mundane Tasks"
Summary: Malleus is enjoying his late night reading while taking care of a few loads of laundry. He thinks to do so undisturbed, but the “disturbance” he ends up getting is better than anything he could’ve hoped for.
Notes: Originally posted to AO3 on 3/24/24 and now being archived here! Original notes: Malleus said something in his Platinum birthday story that got into my brain and made me write this so HUZZAH you get “mutual pining but they’re both INCREDIBLY oblivious and too scared to ruin their friendship”! That and lbvs, I just needed the serotonin.
(Yes, the title is based on a song. No, I am not accepting criticism at this time. xD)
****
There was something so perfect about the peace and quiet of the Diasomnia laundry room at 1am.
While Malleus was intrigued by the hustle of bustle of the dorm during the day, the waves of dorm members that often crowded around him would make even the most minute task increasingly difficult. If it wasn’t Sebek screaming at his heels, it was his supposed fan club offering to do basic chores that he had no issue doing himself. It felt like being back home in Briar Valley, confined to a castle where your every breath is dictated with no room for your input.
Others might not mind the luxury of delegating every task to another person, but the more Malleus was here at Night Raven College, the more he got a taste of the free will that he had ever only dreamed of. Where it once didn’t bother him, he now found himself much more assertive when wanting to do something for himself.

To the surprise of no one, JUNE IS UPON US, officially putting us halfway through the year (crazy happenings and all xD). First Monday Yap of June, so LET'S GET INTO IT!! ^ o^)/
➤ Song on repeat: Endless 通路 - 猫 シ Corp. x CVLTVRΣ
↳"LE GASP!! IT'S NOT A SLEEP TOKEN SONG!!" Correct, b/c I needed writing music over the weekend and the Neon Palm Mall mix never fails me in that regard!! However, the chances of me regressing to having any Sleep Token album on eternal repeat are LOW, but NEVER ZERO >:D
➤ Quote on repeat: "Someone missed you today. Someone noticed when you when you were gone. Someone loves you when you're there. Someone loves you when you're nowhere to be found at all." - Alan Watts

Usually I didnt make this kind of post, but happy pride for my fellow homodachi & trans nakama!
I don't want to write sad things, so I want to write happy things.
I hope we get more gays in animanga & games!
I'm planning to write ,maybe...some queer reading for my side journal?
Anyway, I am kinda busy this month.
I just hope this year will be better for many queers in the world, especially for third worlder queer peeps!

A few years back when I got Big Mad[tm] at Fire Emblem in general (the culmination of several different factors) at the end I threw up my hands, swore a lot, and said fuck it, I'll make my own damn Fire Emblem. And then I did.
(it's not a videogame, don't get your hopes up)
It got a lot of spleens vented and let me sort some stuff. Was a good thing and I enjoyed iteven when I was grating my face on the desk.
Clearly I need(ed) to come to the following jeezus:
Fuck it, I'll make my own Final Fantasy.

Some things, making a post:
# I had a migraine the other day with nausea so bad that it persisted not only into the following day, but it also lasted all day. Luckily(?), I was in work, so I didn't really have time to think about how gross I felt but blerghhhh, please can we not???
# Talking of which, I can't remember if I mentioned it, but I am on a waiting list to get an appointment at the doctor's to, in part, get help with the migraines. They were mostly bearable (in so far as such a thing can be), but the nausea is just. NOPE. NO THANK YOU.
# Yesterday, as I walked into work, I heard People Ruin Paintings on the radio playlist, which is one of the released singles from Critical Thinking and a) I almost sort of enjoyed it (and it was a nice surprise to hear a Manics song at work!) and b) it reminded me that I should listen to the album again, as I have not given it a fair chance yet because I wasn't initially impressed.
(Our store has a pre-built playlist that isn't like a "$Store Radio station" - it's just a giant, varied playlist that has occasional ads for offers or whatever. And, unlike my previous (paid) job, it is actual licensed music, rather than not).
# I ended up talking to two customers about reading, on two separate days!
The first one I hijacked a conversation he was having with a colleague, because I heard him say he has a lot trouble concentrating on reading, and I was like, "OMG SAME!!" Anyway, we chatted a bit, turns out he plays a lot of Vidya Gaems (also same). I told him maybe he's getting his narrative fix from that, as I think to some degree I am, and I said he shouldn't feel guilty about not reading books. I try not to, even though younger me is still mad that I can't concentrate on them like I used to.
And then the other one was an older customer, who's recently become a regular. He was asking about the playlist on the work radio, so I told him a bit about that, and then through some loops in conversation, we ended up talking about science-fiction books. He said he'd read 2001, and I had forgotten until he said it, but I have also read it (I remember nothing), and I talked a bit about Philip K Dick to him (he hasn't read a lot of him, and has seen more films based on his work instead. I am the opposite way around - I've seen Blade Runner and Total Recall and that's IT).
I also complimented a customer's phone case, as it had Hokusai's Wave on it, and that is my favourite Japanese print (I have it on a bunch of things, including multiple postcards, and the t-shirt I am currently wearing).
# I had to walk home from work, and then to work the following day because the bus timetable has changed - buses are now once hourly, and don't run when you need them to. Everything hurts, so I bought myself some pens to make up for it.
# Work is...not great at the moment, but I'm not going into it as to why (way too much explaining, and it's not remotely interesting; also unlocked post). Suffice to say I am very tired, and all I would like to do is sleep.
# that's all I've got for now. I'm going to have my dinner and maybe nap a bit afterwards.
