2020 Yuletide Letter
Oct. 20th, 2020 03:26 amDear Yuletide Writer,
First of all, thank you for taking the time to write something for me! I'm very excited to be participating in my first Yuletide this year, and I'm looking forward to what you come up with. :) Below, you will find a rundown of my general likes and DNWs, as well as fandom-specific prompts and suggestions to give you a general idea of the kinds of stories I like. (Please don't feel that you need to address any of the prompts directly; rather, think of them as guidelines and jumping-off points.) Whatever you choose to write, I hope you have fun! :)

Characters requested: The Kid, Zia, Zulf
Feel free to write any or all of the requested characters.
Fandom DNW: Romantic relationships between any of these characters.
These characters are all quite mysterious, their lives before the Calamity shaped by different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is interesting to see how these factors affect their observations, relationships, and decisions as the only survivors of the Calamity, and how these factors inform the tiny society they build in its wake.
What happened in the Tazal Terminals?
Characters requested: Kara, Will
Feel free to write either or both of the requested characters.
My first real fandom! I was obsessed with this game for several years back in junior high, to the point where I even began drafting a script for a musical adaptation. XD Looking back at it now, it's obvious that the plot threads don't always weave together tightly, but that just leaves more room for fanfic possibilities! I particularly enjoyed the characters of Will and Kara, especially because of how sharply their personalities contrast with one another, and I liked seeing Kara become something less of a spoiled princess as the game went on and she became aware of the world around her, including its uglier aspects.
Characters requested: Vagabond Girl, Ti'zo, Jodariel
Feel free to write any or all of the requested characters, and to include other nominated characters as secondary characters in the story.
So much of my enjoyment of this game came from the characters -- their stories and interactions with one another. I'm interested in stories that flesh out these characters' histories or their present observations or relationships, and what the future might hold for them, whether or not they return to the Commonwealth.
Vagabond Girl
Ti'zo
Jodariel
Characters Requested: Red, Subject|The Boxer, Amelia Garbur
Feel free to write any or all of the requested characters.
Fandom DNW: Recursion
We get such a small snapshot of the world and characters of Transistor, that there are so many stories left to tell! I'm a total sucker for character backstories, and I love getting glimpses into what their personal lives must have been like. I'm also very interested in Cloudbank society: how it worked, where it faltered, who it privileged and who it disenfranchised. Boxer's existence alone hints at socioeconomic disparity in this supposed utopia, and I'm curious to see how the characters occupied their respective places in this society, and how it influenced their opportunities, choices, and personal outlooks.

- The characters' lives before the Calamity
- The characters' lives after either ending, individually or as a group
- Zia caring for the animals The Kid brings back to the Bastion
- Zulf trying to connect with Zia through their shared Ura heritage
- Perhaps by sharing some folklore, or trying to teach her to read their language
- Or perhaps realizing the gap between their cultural experiences
- Perhaps by sharing some folklore, or trying to teach her to read their language
- How did Zia react to being rejected as a traitor?
- The Ura turning on Zulf
- The Kid's reasoning behind whichever choice he makes when he finds Zulf

- The events in Angel Village, from either POV (or both!)
- Missing scenes during travel between locations
- Expanded scenes
- Kara experiencing the realities of life outside the castle
- Kara sneaking into the Tower of Babel
- The story behind the Crystal Rings and their significance
- Reunion in the new world

Vagabond Girl
- Her early days in the Downside
- Sneaking onto the Blackwagon
- Her faith in the scribes -- where does it come from, what exactly does she believe?
- Cute or touching moments with Ti'zo and/or Jodariel
Ti'zo
- This little imp has seen a lot. What are his impressions of the Downside? Of the Nightwings, past and present?
- How he broke his horn
- Facing off against the Accusers (past or present)
- Fishing! :D
- Cute or touching moments with the Vagabond Girl
Jodariel
- The event leading to her exile
- Her first years in the Downside
- The beginning of her transformation
- Her nurturing tendencies
- Moments with the Vagabond Girl
Transistor

Red:
- How/why she chose her particular vocation
- Her days at Traverson Hall, helping to develop their arts program
- The incident that led her to temporarily recede from the spotlight
- Pre-relationship interactions with Boxer
- Mid-canon reflections on her situation, limitations, fears and frustrations
- Respite in the Sandbox
- The bridge to Fairview. Did she consciously construct it that way, or did the Transistor impose her thoughts on its design? How did she feel walking toward Fairview, as the statues grew farther apart? Conversely, did their growing proximity on the return trip give her a moment of hope, futile as it ultimately was?
Subject | The Boxer
- His backstory -- who is he? Where did he come from? How did he end up working for Red?
- Pre-relationship interactions with Red
- Reflections from inside the Transistor -- how does he feel? What can he see/hear?
- Any insight into who this character might be; I find him both incredibly endearing and frustratingly enigmatic, and I would love to see your take on him!
Red/Subject | The Boxer
- My OTP across all my fandoms, so I figured it merited its own section. I enjoy their dynamic as it's implied in the game, and would especially enjoy a story set before the events of the game, looking back on the good times they shared.
- How they met
- The development of their relationship
- Red running her material by Boxer, whether in private or during rehearsals
- Quiet moments together
- Silly, fun moments together
- Just enjoying each other's company, not necessarily overtly romantic
- Mid-canon moments where they still manage to communicate despite their current limitations
- In the same vein as above, moments of rest in the Sandbox
- Reunion in the Country
Amelia Garbur
- What drove her to become a reporter?
- What was her rank within the OVC? Her relationship with the organization?
- Did she know any of the other characters we learn about in the game? If so, what was her relationship to them?
- Her reactions to and reflections on the events of the game. When did she realize the severity of the situation? Did she ever come to terms with the end of Cloudbank personally? Or did she simply try to remain professional to the very end?
- Scenes from her personal life – family, friends, schooling, coming home after a day of work.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this letter, and thanks again for taking the time and effort to write something for this challenge. I really appreciate it, and I'm looking forward to reading the end result! :)
