Rising to the challenge ...

For the final entry in the Snowflake Challenge, scrubjayspeaks issued a challenge to create a fanwork in a medium other than our usual. Since I'm a writer, I decided to dust off my (casual) art supplies and give a drawing a try.

I really had a lot of fun with this! It feels good to broaden my experience now and then. Thanks for giving me the push I needed! :D




It is supposed to be Raine, from Final Fantasy VIII. She came out looking extremely young here, but I suppose that's just her "blooming" again. ;)

Ink, markers, and colored pencils, with some digital touch-ups and added text.

This is so lovely! I love the delicate lines of the vine and flowers, and the slightly off-center midpoint you gave them lends the piece a good, dynamic composition.

Oh I love the colors here. They're so soft and really fitting for her. The vines in particular are lovely and I'm a huge fan of the coloring/gradient in the circle, where the blue goes to yellow 💕

Thank you! With the inner circle, I wanted something to contrast with the outer one, but also to have some warmth, especially as it got closer to Raine, hence the gradient. I'm glad you liked it! :D
