No Writing, Only Animal Crossing
May. 21st, 2020 12:50 amWhat a difference a week makes. Last update, I was whining and stressing about Animal Crossing; now, I finally understand its charm. I have my seven villagers already, and, with a little bit of planning and quite a bit of tree-replanting, I have managed to fit them in without destroying the atmosphere of my island. In the past week, I've been delighted by my villagers' letters and conversations; expanded the museum and opened up the Able Sisters' shop; witnessed a meteor shower and met Celeste; met Leif and finally got some shrubbery; and joined in Olaf's birthday celebration! I had a slow and uncertain start with this game, but I'm thankful I stuck it out, because it's proven to be absolutely adorable (and the fishing -- and subsequent money-making -- is very addictive!).
I think my initial problem with the game was an issue of control. At the beginning, the player really doesn't have the resources necessary to shape the island to their particular vision. The first week or so is definitely a waiting game. But now that I have access to more tools, recipes, and services, as well as having gotten a feel for both the island and its residents, I feel far more confident that I can ultimately create the little island paradise I want. :) I'm both relieved at this realization, and very excited to move forward!
I'm not a patient person; I never have been. But this little game is doing its best to teach me how to slow down and wait, and during a time when that's pretty much all I can do in real life, anyway, this is a much more entertaining way to do it! :D

Date: 2020-05-21 07:54 pm (UTC)This is my first Animal Crossing game, so I can't speak of the previous installments, but my friends who are huge fans of the series have said New Horizons, in particular, is a much slower game at the start. For my at least, it's a much-appreciated relief to not have to invest every hour of my waking days into the game to progress further. A little bit here, a little bit there... it'll all come together!
Congrats on the museum expansion and the Able Sisters opening up shop! And isn't Celeste the sweetest??? I love it when she visits! And the villagers' birthdays are the best! Ahhh I love hearing about everyone's experience with the game :D
Ok, but NOW you need to talk about which villagers are on your island! Do you have a fave? 💕

Date: 2020-05-22 01:37 am (UTC)Olaf and Gladys are my newest villagers, so I really haven't gotten to know them too well, yet, but they seem to be just as cute as the rest of the bunch. I appreciate Gladys' love of books, and Olaf's sense of self-importance is actually pretty endearing. Incidentally, the first time I met Olaf at the campsite, his radio was playing "K.K. Mariachi," and when I saw his black-and-gold jacket, I legit thought I'd found a mariachi character ... until he said, "Buongiorno!" XD
There is one mystery surrounding all of my villagers, though: where do they get all those tasty snacks? I'd like a donut, too!

Date: 2020-05-22 01:01 pm (UTC)OMG THE SNACKS. WHERE DO I GET THESE CUTE TRIANGLE SAMMICHS???? AND THE DONUTS!!! AHHHH!!! One of my villagers, Dom, is always talking about getting swole, but every time I see him, he's sitting on the beach, eating a donut. He's a smol sheep boi, too, so all I can think of is his wool tripling in size instead of muscles.
